《3-day Calm & Insight (śamatha-vipaśyanā) Retreat》
“Samatha-vipassanā” is a method of cultivating concentration. “Samatha” means stopping the mind in one place, and “vipassanā” means observing the movement and stillness of the mind. The power of “stop” can cleanse our mind that is corroded by defilements, tame all kinds of distractions and uneasiness, and gain spiritual stability; the power of “contemplating” allows us to find the way of life, solve the confusion, and gain wisdom.
In this 3-day retreat, Ven. Guo Goang will teach the concepts and method of practicing Samatha-vipassanā, and guide us to begin with awareness and relaxation, letting the “mind” return to the present moment, and then implementing the practice of Samatha-vipassanā – Concentration and Wisdom”, which will lead to the path of awakening and liberation.
The daily schedule includes periods of sitting and walking meditation, dharma talks, and interview with the venerable if needed. Silence is maintained throughout the whole retreat.

- Anyone who has taken the Beginner’s Meditation Workshop / Intro to Basic Meditation or has previous experience in Chan/Zen practice is welcome to join.
